Walk cycle
From Anipedia
A walk cycle is a popular idea in animation. Many animations over time have included walk cycles.
Here is an exerpt from the Animator's Survival Kit. It shows the process of a simple framebyframe walk cycle using inbetweens. This is one type of walk cycle.
For lack of a better example, here is a walk cycle animation, in which the simple figure wasn't redrawn in each frame. In this image, the head of the character is one flash-drawn symbol moving up and down. The rest of the body was redrawn for around ten frames. Another difference between the two examples is, the walk cycle from the Animator's Survival Kit was animated in a pose-to-pose method. This diagram was made with Straight Ahead Action.
