User talk:Rtil
From Anipedia
I can't figure out how to change my starting username on my article page. All it says is "YourUsername" and I can't seem to change it. You can clearly see the problem at this page Here. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks rtil
- Please read the Focus page. This page and the how to make your article page clearly state that you are supposed to go to the name of the page you want your article to be named, and start it there. For example, you were supposed to change "YourUsername" to, well, your username. Move the content from its current article to the correct one. Also, comments belong at the bottom of my page, not the top. --Rtil 04:58, 7 September 2007 (CDT)
I will destroy j00!
cool! Rtil
Jenova- Meh, k, I'll write some stuff about artists and stuff too, but theres no harm in me writing tutorials when I'd otherwise be doing nothing right? Also I was wondering if you plan on giving the site a front page with news and updates and stuff when the sites out of the development stage?
There's no harm in it, but later on they will have to conform to templates that i and others will be designing, so keep in mind they may be changed heavily in the future. And yes, i do plan on developing the front page further, but i only know so much about wiki code atm. Please sign your naming using four tildes. Rtil 14:59, 19 August 2007 (CDT)
K, I get ya --Brained 15:19, 19 August 2007 (CDT)
Tildes are ~ for anyone who doesn't know. To sign your name you merely need to type four like so: ~~~~ --Evilagram 18:06, 19 August 2007 (CDT)
very good sir. Rtil 18:11, 19 August 2007 (CDT)
- also, to extend conversations with indents, use colons. the more colons, the more indents. it will make conversations more organized. Rtil 18:11, 19 August 2007 (CDT)
okie dokie. you should make a page explaining all this clearly, cause i wanna keep contributing but wiki code is confusing as hell - freekc
- Okay, well there are links and answers to questions all over Anipedia. Did you even read above that you use four ~'s to sign your name? Also, the focus page has links to the Wikipedia Cheatsheet, which covers pretty much all the wiki code you need to know, and the infobox pages explain exactly how to use them, as well as the project pages. If you get stuck somewhere, let me know. Rtil 18:18, 19 August 2007 (CDT)
cool ok. and is there gonna be a way you can lock your own page from editing, so you dont get idiots going on it and typing "I AM GAYZ I LYK TO FUK DOGS" and stuff? FreekC 18:20, 19 August 2007 (CDT)
- admins and mods can lock pages to prevent unregistered users (as well as anyone except admins) from editing a page. i'm not sure if you can protect your own page, but you can revert vandalism by going to the "history", and selecting "rollback" to revert a vandals' edits. if vandalism persists, you can always ask me to protect your page from guest edits. i can also ban IP's that repeatedly vandalize. at this point the site is small enough i can manage this all on my own. Also, use colons to add to this conversation. Rtil 18:23, 19 August 2007 (CDT)
- sweet, im learning already. i finished motion tweens, ill add more stuff at a later day, im starting some lip syncing thing
Please sign your posts on the talk pages!
- --Evilagram 18:35, 19 August 2007 (CDT)
- is anyone online? im gonna carry on making crap cause dislike flashwiki. lots. mainly cause im pretty hated on the bbs FreekC 20:05, 19 August 2007 (CDT)
Ugh, yes, we are. Continue making pages, but focus on making them high quality with correct grammar and spelling. And what do you mean by "making crap cause dislike flashwiki. lots."? Are you saying that you dislike flash wiki? That it is disliked? That you're making things here because you hate it there?
- --Evilagram 20:16, 19 August 2007 (CDT)
- thats not the full reason, but once i tired helping flash wiki and alot of the members were just assholes towards me
- and i just grammar checked the motion tween page, everything seems fine :/ FreekC 20:22, 19 August 2007 (CDT)
flashwiki is a joke. it's not even comparable to what i imagine anipedia will be
actually the difference is one is shit but ya - anigen
you guys, PLEASE sign your name using four tildes. i don't know how many times i have to repeat myself. also, i appreciate you guys are making tutorials and stuff, but please see the focus page. i have templates set up for 6 different kinds of articles that you can work off of. these are flash animations, animators, artists, collabs and series. i want to build this encyclopedia step by step and not scatterbrained. we will focus on the actual mechanics of flash as our next focus. but for now, we need to build the community, because we are the community. Rtil 01:48, 20 August 2007 (CDT)
Currently I'm just going to be building up my page, and keeping the site running, with the occasional edit here and there. I'm a bit disconnected from the flash community, especially the newgrounds one.
- --Evilagram 04:30, 20 August 2007 (CDT)
- Great. If you would like to expand on articles created that would be great, too. A lot of people are making articles with one or two lines with basically nothing to work on. Examples being pages like Bogswallop and Nephod. these are horrible. Rtil 04:33, 20 August 2007 (CDT)
Flash Series page created (URL tag Flash_Series) so no need to create a new page if you wanna contribute. I'm working on Madness. Should I do TANKMEN yet, or is the series not long enough? FreekC 08:39, 20 August 2007 (CDT)
- Wait a second, why is madness on a page called Flash Series? Madness should be on a page entitled, well, Madness, using the Flash Series template and infobox located on the Focus page. Rtil 14:37, 20 August 2007 (CDT)
Thanks a ton for promoting me to sysop status! I'll try my best to keep this place running smoothly.
- --Evilagram 04:05, 21 August 2007 (CDT)
hey rtil i fixed my page up and edited some other articles. I should go about making more pages
since you're starting to get admins, can I take the job? --Anigen 05:05, 21 August 2007 (CDT)
- if you can start writing in a more encyclopedic tone (no personal opinions, writing in the 3rd person), and show me that you have a firm grasp of wiki syntax, you can have the job. evilagram has demonstrated this. i also don't just hand them out. so prove to me you do, and you can take it. Rtil 16:07, 21 August 2007 (CDT)
Definitely fair enough. I'll keep my opinions to myself and go only on factual information to keep any article on Anipedia that I so much as lay eyes on, to be completely and entirely encyclopedic. I'll keep my writing in the third person (on articles) and try not to go off the tracks on that.
Thanks for considering me. I will keep my posts on Anipedia strictly professional from this point on to help the community expand and have more credibility as a whole.
For my own references (as in, if you want to know how well i am able to use the wiki syntax), you can feel free to come over to my article, which is lately the one i've given all my attention to. I started out by using the buttons at the top, (for example clicking the picture of the globe to get an external link,), but after around a day of use, I switched to writing everything in code. What I have not learned, I can get down rather quickly and efficiently. --Anigen 17:18, 21 August 2007 (CDT)
- alright. well i will be watching the article and your edits to see how you are doing. Rtil 16:20, 21 August 2007 (CDT)
In response to your posts here and on my userpage, I have to say this: If I had grudges on this site, I would have edited multiple articles including Wonchop's. In order to keep the place professional, I made sure not to touch articles that I couldn't contribute positive information to. You know me, I'm quite informal. If my disliking for certain individuals was something I'd let get in the way of my desire to help this site expand and become overall better, I would have most likely screwed up their pages or added biased information to their articles.
Of course, as you said, I need to show you because words mean nothing without action to back them up. What I will do is make some more articles and continue to not touch other people's articles unless to contribute helpful information, make an article more complete, or flagging an article originally useless by putting in a notice like: (Rtil - this article is unhelpful.)
I will also show you how i can use wiki syntax.
--Anigen 17:40, 21 August 2007 (CDT)
- looking forward to it. Rtil 16:42, 21 August 2007 (CDT)
http://anipedia.thebackalleys.com/index.php/List_of_Star_Syndicate_cartoons
hey rtil. I just filled in all the season 3 dailytoons and added the two new ones to season 4. if you want, I'll do all of the season 1 and 2 dailytoons to prove myself good enough for sysop :) --Anigen 18:59, 21 August 2007 (CDT)
- Thanks. You'd be doing everyone a huge favor by filling out the rest. I'll be reviewing your work throughout the day, but please don't ask for the sysop. Rtil 18:24, 21 August 2007 (CDT)
fair enough man. I'll fill in the other two after I get outta the shower (15 minutes) --Anigen 19:31, 21 August 2007 (CDT)
- ok. wiki syntax tip here. i've been noticing you're using full URL's for anipedia links. you do not need to do that. for any article you can put inbetween two brackets, like this. [[star syndicate|anipedia link]] turns into anipedia link. Rtil 18:32, 21 August 2007 (CDT)
And one of the general rules about becoming a mod or in this case, sysop, is to NEVER ask for the position. That practically guarantees that you'll not get it. Also, rtil, I added examples alongside the wiki syntax on your userpage.
- --Evilagram 03:54, 22 August 2007 (CDT)
hey, rtil. I added all of Ross O'Donnovan's cartoons into his infobox and i believe i fixed his picture
I also begun the process for the dailytoons seasons 1 and 2. i'll finish those within the hour hopefully.
- --Anigen 10:42, 22 August 2007 (CDT)
RTIL! thanks for making me a sysop! I will do my best to uphold the law and use my power to its fullest potential --Anigen 18:42, 22 August 2007 (CDT)
"Hello there rtil. I just thought this article: http://anipedia.thebackalleys.com/index.php/Loathsome has absolutely nothing to do with animation. I think it should be deleted and you should only allow only animators with real prestidge to write pages. It's ok if you dont delete it, but at least tell the person to talk more about animation than about how he changed his screen name." --Keicho 22:28, 22 August 2007 (CDT)
- Keicho, I am allowing anyone who is an animator regardless of their experience to make a page about themselves, so long as they have something to show for it. As far as pages about flash series and animations go, that is a different story. Rtil 13:17, 23 August 2007 (CDT)
I personally don't agree with the decision to make Anigen a sysop. He just seems like he's after the power for personal gain, as opposed to helping the site. However if you decide to follow through with the decision, I won't oppose you on it.
- --Evilagram 10:50, 23 August 2007 (CDT)
hey. sorry if iv been leaving half written articles, i'v been away. ill finish madness tonight, and get started on TANKMEN. FreekC 12:20, 23 August 2007 (CDT)
- that's ok, as long as you build on them later or leave enough for people to work off of in the future, it is ok. but keep on writing. :) Rtil 13:17, 23 August 2007 (CDT)
about evilagram's comment:
I believe what you said to be completely rude and unprofessional. Aside from this, you are questioning rtil's judgement. If you have a problem with me, you can take it up elsewhere, but PLEASE, don't try to start position drama, and just a word of advice, don't try to pull rtil into favorism.
rtil has his reasons for making me a sysop, and he has reasons for making you a sysop. --Anigen 14:54, 23 August 2007 (CDT)
- i can add and remove sysops whenever i please. if someone abuses their position, i will revoke it. Rtil 14:59, 23 August 2007 (CDT)
--Anigen 15:16, 23 August 2007 (CDT) thank you. besides, what would I have to gain from being a sysop? All it lets me do is have access to tools allowing me to make anipedia better. all my actions are logged as well. if it's the possibility of me messing up the site, that is not a worry considering rtil is one of my favorite people on the internet, due to this I would have no reason to hurt his site, and even if I tried everything can be rollbacked and I can be deadmined in 5 seconds flat. in reality, rtil has all the control, so to me, the sysop position isn't power at all, just a toolbox with sharper tools to help improve the site (and protect articles and keep an extra set of eyes on things for rtil) --Anigen 15:16, 23 August 2007 (CDT)
Ok sorry I thought it was a bit rude of me saying that, but if its ok thats fine, i didnt know it was allowed. And as far as anigen being a sysop i think we can all count on him with that, he has lately shown proffesionalism in what he does, and is rtil's friend IRL, so I dont think he will risk himself to destroy the site or spam his enemies. Anyway keep the drama low and instead say, THIS SITE ROCKS! --Keicho 16:03, 23 August 2007 (CDT)
- thanks guys, and keep on writing :) Rtil 17:40, 23 August 2007 (CDT)
whats a sysop? like an admin? and no im not hinting that i want to be one that would be the worst descision ever. just wondering what everyones on about FreekC 19:13, 23 August 2007 (CDT)
- yes, a sysop is an admin. however, they cannot add new admins, only a bureaucrat can, and i'm the only bureaucrat Rtil
- yknow someone should design a "sponsored by anipedia" or "visit anipedia" flash file that members can stick at the start of their flash productions. FreekC 11:41, 24 August 2007 (CDT)
- i'm going to be designing stuff like that very soon, and the first one will be in my freetown flash Rtil 12:35, 24 August 2007 (CDT)
- sweet. its just i had some ideas and i was gonna kock one up. like, theres a boxing ring, and in one corner there's a well animated brick shithouse of a fighter, then in the other corner theres some shitty tweened stickman. and the stickman starts throwing some lame tweened punches or something, then the big guy just throws one massive punchand destroys him. or something.</br>
i dont know along the lines of that. then the text saying"Suck at animating? Visit anipedia.thebackalleys.com would fade on the screen. i actually have no idea i just thought of that whilst i was typing FreekC 13:23, 24 August 2007 (CDT)
- "suck at animating?" sounds a little too harsh. i also want it to be a little more graphic-design intro instead of a cartoon thing. Rtil 13:26, 24 August 2007 (CDT)
- yeah makes sense. maybe "Need help with animating?" or something. y'mind if i just make a personal one to stick on my own DA page? FreekC 13:32, 24 August 2007 (CDT)
- nope, not at all. Rtil 13:33, 24 August 2007 (CDT)
- lol @ redmongooses crap. who is david moore? FreekC 17:00, 24 August 2007 (CDT)
im submitting my koolaide: teaser to NG and DA within the next 2 days. is their any kind of graphic i can use in the credits to link here? here's the unfinished version to give you an idea - (URL removed because it triggered the spam filter) FreekC 12:59, 27 August 2007 (CDT)
- yes, the anipedia logo in flash format is what i have available at the moment. do what you want with it.
- flash cs3 version
- flash 8 version
- be sure to right click and save as
- okie dokie ill use it as a link in the preloader. ill probably be submitting tonight / tomorrow, then i can start work here again FreekC 18:48, 27 August 2007 (CDT)
- cool. be sure to give us a link once it's out there! Rtil 12:29, 28 August 2007 (CDT)
done. hopefully. im sooo bad with AS. iv convinced a few people to join, a few of my watchers on DA and some guy whos voice acting for my series ^^ FreekC 12:41, 28 August 2007 (CDT)

- --Evilagram 17:57, 28 August 2007 (CDT)
- wow evilagram, that was great! upload the FLA here for people to use. this is a great tool for people to add to their animations. one thing i noticed is that i forgot to include the font. i'll be sure to add it to the library and re-upload it. Rtil 21:41, 29 August 2007 (CDT)
I worked hard on it, but unlike you, I have no access to the domain, and thus can't permanently host it. Download it from here, and host it here yourself.
- --Evilagram 10:52, 30 August 2007 (CDT)
- Sorry, I was unaware that FLA's could not be uploaded here via the Upload page. I'll see what I can do about that. For now, you can download it @ [1] Rtil 14:25, 30 August 2007 (CDT)
hey, erm, i didnt really get your da post. basically can we now write articles on the directors of our favourite cartoons? if so i wanna do danny antonucci... however you spell it ^^ FreekC 18:21, 30 August 2007 (CDT)
- you can make articles about directors. so yes, danny antonucci direct Ed Edd 'n Eddy. so go to the focus page and see the new template for people like him. Rtil 19:48, 30 August 2007 (CDT)
Hey I can't seem to figure out how to edit the "works bit" of the directors infobox. FreekC 21:04, 30 August 2007 (CDT)
- oh, sorry about that. i forgot to change the template, the line should be "works=" instead of "films=". i just updated the template for future use. Rtil 21:07, 30 August 2007 (CDT)
is project freethingy gonna be using the anipedia logo? if it does you're gonna get a sourge in members cause that second screenshot down was just.. wow FreekC 09:10, 7 September 2007 (CDT)
also some guy called five-iron has written his article on the YourUsername page. ill try and fix it but i cant remember the original text on this page FreekC 09:13, 7 September 2007 (CDT)
- yeah i know about the five-iron thing. anipedia logo is not in my new flash, but there is a section on the menu dedicated to it. hopefully it'll bring in some people interested. --Rtil 14:40, 7 September 2007 (CDT)
hey i've got aa list of directors that I want to cover, but i was wondering, should Matt stone and trey parker be on the same page? FreekC 12:56, 9 September 2007 (CDT)
no,probably not. they are different people.--Rtil 12:59, 9 September 2007 (CDT)
If anyone uses the logo I animated, could you please give me credit in the description of your movie? Thanks a ton!
Also, put more space between the previous posts on the talk pages, it's hard to tell who's saying what. All the posts blend together

[edit] Nice
This is awesome. One thing though, what's whith the random page thingy. Sometimes it links to the homepage or something like that. You should make it go to only articles. Just a suggestion. I cant wait to see more on here!
[edit] great site
I hope to see it flourish. Sj
At the end of metropolis circut, it looks like there's a little dot flying around in the background. Anything important?
It depends, ON WHETHER YOU SIGN YOUR POSTS ON THE DAMN TALK PAGES!!!
USE FOUR ~s TO SIGN YOUR POSTS BITCH!!!
- --Evilagram 19:27, 18 September 2007 (CDT)
- a little flying dot? i have no idea what you're talking about. there were ashes from the cigarette, that's about it. please use four tildes to sign your name after your post in a talk page, or hit the button 2nd to the left at the top of the text box that looks like a signature (it's inbetween the W with a slash trough it and the one that looks like a hyphen), it will make a signature for you as well.--Rtil 19:32, 18 September 2007 (CDT)
[edit] Oh man
Rtil you and your ideas. This site is awesome. It's gonna be big. I can see it. --komiks 19:08, 20 September 2007 (CDT)
I hope you are right, thanks for joining. --Rtil 19:09, 20 September 2007 (CDT)
Thanks for looking out for my talk page, but with it protected nobody can contact me except for sysops and bureaucrats, although that isn't much of a problem currently as you've been the only one using such means of contact at all.
- --Evilagram 14:11, 27 September 2007 (CDT)
Ah! It didn't say that you had locked it from unregistered users on the recent changes page sorry about the confusion!
This encyclopedia is starting to die out. rather quickly too. We need to get people adding stuff.
- --Evilagram 20:25, 30 September 2007 (CDT)
PS. sorry about signing that from my home IP, I forgot to log in.
The tutorials are the entire reason I signed up.
- --Evilagram 15:50, 3 October 2007 (CDT)
Well, it's rather hard to create a standardized format for tutorial images, because every tutorial differs from one to the next. I don't have any ideas, sorry.
- --Evilagram 15:45, 12 October 2007 (CDT)
In case you didn't notice, we're having some trouble with spambots. I'd advise preventing anonymous users from editing pages.
Actually I noticed an actual spam attack and I reverted it. It posted like a hundred links in Spanish.
- --Evilagram 08:42, 13 October 2007 (CDT)
seen as this is an encylopedia, i take it theres going to be articles on less respected(by this general community) yet well known flash series? FreekC 06:12, 26 November 2007 (CST)
- yep. if someone wants to write about a cartoon series then i'm not going to stop them if it's documenting its history. --Rtil 11:53, 26 November 2007 (CST)
[edit] rtil
Oh man, yeah, its really fucking easy to get the hang of it. (it being anipedia codes) Its not html but very simple so I don't foresee any problems.
I hope you don't mind me, trying to help out at least? I mean, you do very quality work, I was really impressed with your movies, its got good directing and even some real animation which to me is rare to find on Newgrounds. I went through and was like, "wow so this is the guy who made that MetroTown movie that was incredible" and it takes alot to impress me, even though it may not seem like it.
I also realize I sound uhm. odd. but I figured that I am out of my Newgrounds element and my Kitty Krew persona is only loosely tied to me now, why not act more like my true self.
Im also pretty high right now. yeah. Idk dude rtil I dont know you at all arent you in the SS? like yeah. I hope I fit in over at anipedia. and here on dA. and ng..and..rambling. uhm. yes. SQueef 11:02, 3 February 2008 (CST) sQueef.
- Yes, I am in the SS, but I'm not very active there anymore. I don't mind anyone helping out, I need all the help I can get. glad you got the hang of the syntax quickly. Let me know if you need anything, and you can sign your name using four tildes. It automatically converts to a sig with a link to your profile after you hit "save page." --Rtil 14:32, 23 December 2007 (CST)
Hey rtil somebody by the IP address of 189.149.187.90 ruined the "Tweening" guide that was made but I (think) I reverted it so hopefully this problem is solved. I dont know if IP banning works on this site, or perhaps you know this person, whatever the case may be, just wanted to let you know. The IP address aforementioned is a Latin American/Caribbean IP, but that doesn't mean much... SQueef 19:15, 3 February 2008 (CST)
- thanks for reverting the edits. there is an IP ban feature, i banned them with an expiry time of infinite lmao. that kind of shit is dumb and i don't even know why people bother - it's easier to revert spam than it is to create it on a wiki site. --Rtil 15:32, 4 February 2008 (CST)
I'm back to do things on occasion. Anigen 09:11, 9 February 2008 (CST)
- alright, cool. --Rtil 12:11, 9 February 2008 (CST)
I was wondering, if you have this section for Animation History wouldn't it be easier to link to wikipedia for stuff like zoetrope, magic lantern and famous animators instead of just re-writing biographies? I know you're not really there yet cause you want the tutorials done i was just wonderin. SPace 16:35, 25 March 2008 (CDT)
- lmao, i suppose. but i didn't create Anipedia so we could redirect you to wikipedia. --Rtil 18:44, 25 March 2008 (CDT)
- Ha i know, just thought it would cut some corners yea? cause if people start doing pages for non-flash related animators they'd just end up copy pasting wiki articles cause nobody will want to write up a bunch of already existing pages. just my two cents prolly gettin ahead of things though, i'll get workin on another tutorial page SPace 22:25, 25 March 2008 (CDT)
- yeah, that's why i made those kind of articles (the ones that are also available on wikipedia) lower priority. the tutorials are our #1 right now. --Rtil 01:14, 26 March 2008 (CDT)
[edit] Vandals
Might I suggest blocking people without accounts from editing pages? Although vandals are rare, the sheer amount that is normally done by unregistered accounts is just starting to get a pain to clean up. With registration as a requirement, we might be able to deter would-be vandals. Just a thought. Shida 11:51, 30 September 2008 (CDT)
- thanks for the suggestion shida, and a surprise to see you here. although registering does not stop vandalism. the bots are just as easily capable of setting up accounts as they are spamming. --Rtil 03:27, 1 October 2008 (CDT)
- edit - i just checked out the recent changes page. still, the reasoning stands. the user who did that was someone who has an axe to grind (i banned him from my forums)... obviously he was childish enough to do something like that. it's the first time it's happened and hopefully it won't happen again. --Rtil 03:33, 1 October 2008 (CDT)
- I guessed it would be someone who had something to hold against you. Erugh, where do they get the time to do stuff like this? Bot spam isn't really as annoying as human vandalism, to me, but it is your wiki and your decision. I came over when I got a message about certain pages I had edited in some form being changed. I was just really really annoyed at the amount of vandalism. I do check out this place from time to time. I hope it doesn't happen again either. Shida 11:53, 1 October 2008 (CDT)
- well thank you very much for cleaning it up, that was a hell of a lot of spam. i actually took his IP and banned him from the *entire* site, because he hasn't just vandalized anipedia, he has vandalized the forums as well. that takes care of that i guess. anyway, thanks again, and i'm glad you still drop by. --Rtil 16:34, 1 October 2008 (CDT)
- It's no problem at all! I like to check the site from time to time to see what's new. I also like to finish what I start, and I hate to see vandalism in wikis. Even if it means reverting a lot of spam. Wonder what made him think vandalism was a good idea. I'm hoping that is the end of that, but there are still ways for the guy to get around the IP ban, so I'm also hoping he's not one of those persistent types. Shida 16:54, 1 October 2008 (CDT)
- he is a notorious proxy user... but let's hope he's found some meaning in his life recently. --Rtil 18:23, 1 October 2008 (CDT)

I'm hoping that is the end of that, but there are still ways for the guy to get around the IP ban, so I'm also hoping he's not one of those persistent types. Shida 16:54, 1 October 2008 (CDT)
