[edit] About Onion Skinning
Onion Skinning is a timeline based tool which may be used to observe preceding and succeeding frames in the timeline. This tool may be used in any timeline and isn't limited to the root timeline or a symbol timeline. This tool is useful for filling the in-between frames in animation for pose-to-pose or as a guide for frame-by-frame animation.
'Onion Skin in use'
The Onion Skin tool is situated beneath the timeline in the Flash interface. There are several options for method of Onion Skin. The first option, Onion Skin shows transparent images of preceding or succeeding frames dependant on the range of markers. In this example the range of the markers is between frame 4 and 6, which means frames 4 and 6 are transparent whilst Frame 5 is dominant. The further the marker is from the dominant frame the more transparent that frame is.
The option Onion Outline shows the outline for the frames within the marker range. This option is useful in masking and primarily vector work rather than symbols.
The Modify Onion Markers option simply sets preferences for Onion Skinning. For example the option Always Show Markers allows for the Onion Marker range to be seen at all times when using the Flash interface, even when not Onion Skinning. the option Anchor Onion allows for the Onion Skin to be anchored on that timeline for example if my Onion skin range is at frame 4 to 6 when i go to say frame 8 the Onion Skin range will remain at 4 to 6.
The other options simply state the default amount of Onion Skin Markers shown.
[edit] Edit Multiple Frames
The other tool associated with Onion Skinning is Edit multiple Frames. This tool allows for mass manipulations of images in frames at a single instance. To use this tool you must drag the Onion Skin marker range around the frames you wish to edit, in this case all, and then select the desired symbols/images/fill you wish to edit then perform a desired action. If you wish to move all objects uniformerly you would select all (Ctrl+A) however this feature may be used for various things such as shape distortion or editing out a common mistake.
