DevilSlayer & NightGun are parts of an animated series on Newgrounds.com created by Kalen "Yungjazz" Whitfield of Urbanlyte Studios. Originally titled both titles follow the story of a young man named Jakal Icada who fights demons, witches and other pagan entities in a futuristic city called Neotropolis. The series begins as the gardan variety anime story, but with a more ethnic character roster than usual, and currently has 6 canonical animated cartoons with lengths varying from 5-10 minutes. Nightgun has lots of Action, as well as many comedy elements but grows slowly more dramatic and serious with each installment.

Nightgun has gotten mixed feelings on Newgrounds, reviews are generally positive, though there is very much criticism about the cliche's within the storyline, the lack of diversity in the characters' predominantly black lineup, and the shortcuts within the animation. Out of the 6 existing Nightgun cartoons, 4 have gotten front page on Newgrounds and the most popular has been Magic Crack Rocks, with 70,000 views. A minor feat for Newgrounds' most popular animators, but enough to have gotten the creator, YungJazz, a few fans.

Neotropolis is a city scarred by the war between two factions; CRiSIS who fights for the dominance of Satan's followers, while teaching magic and devil-summoning (The city's whopping majority) and Zephyr who fights for the rights of God's followers (a persecuted minority). Jakal, nicknamed "Jazz" by his friends is an ex-CRiSIS agent and keeps his identity closely guarded. Only his girlfriend, Kiara, his mother, Aaliya, his best friend, Kayle, and his half-brother, Bryce, are aware of his past. He's currently fighting demons spawned by CRiSIS Corp.'s magic students to prevent a disaster that only he knows is in store.

Jakal (Juh-kol) "Jazz" Icada (I-kay-da)
Known Unique Abilities: Bursts of green lightning from eyes, ability to create steel objects from thin air , they disappear after a minute or so; limited telekinesis.
Jazz is a shit-talker. He is never really quiet and makes sure that people know exactly what he's thinking, but doesn't mean any harm deep down. His friends are very important to him, and he fancies himself to be their guardian. Too bad he's the only one who thinks so. He's never afraid to argue people down, and picks at everybody jokingly.

D'ante (Dee-on-tay) Kayle
Known Unique Abilities: The ability to shoot bone-like wires from any body part creation of small tornadoes and whirlwinds , limited telekinesis.
Kayle is the more laid back one. He rarely speaks but makes sure to hoe somebody when he's doing it, otherwise, he doesn't say a word. He's very observant about details in a situation. As Jakal's best friend, he always has his back and stays wherever Jakal is.

Kiara Deshaun Shahka Alize' Burreevah Louis
Known Unique Abilities: Super strength in arms and legs, the ability to see in slow-motion at will , spontaneous combustion from hands.
Kiara is, like Jakal, a shit talker, only moreso. She openly hoes everyone she comes into contact with, and not only is willing to argue, but considers it a hobby. But like Jakal, it is only in fun, and she doesn't let it get to the point where it's irritating.

Bryce "Blues" Icada
Known Unique Abilities: The ability to shoot lightning from hands, and make lightning travel across surfaces.
Blues is, as said before, Jazz's younger half brother whom he has legal custody over. He's usually completely clueless in any situation, and complains about dumb, insignificant things, but strangely he and Jazz never argue.

[edit] Sideline Characters
Kain A mysterious young man with a horribly fake British accent, Kain is apparently an old acquaintance of Jazz: one who wants to see him dead. He enjoys the company of demons and they seem to follow his instructions without back talk. However, his origins are a mystery.
Aaliya Aaliya is Jazz and Blues' mother. She's tough for a woman her age and is hard to spot without a cigar and a 12-gauge shot gun. She runs an orphanage for abandoned children carrying holy DNA.
Charlie Charlie is the orphan that Aaliya keeps the closest because he's not only timid and anti-social, but powerful enough to see the future. He predicts Jazz's return home in DevilSlayer Episode 2.
Dimitri Elixir Dimitri Elixir is the head of CRiSIS Corporation, the company that protects Neotropolis with magical and demonic studies. He's a lazy leader who sleeps a lot and doesn't seem to take a side at all in the war between the holy and the demonic in the city. However, the monarchy seems to force his hand on many decisions.
