Newgrounds is an extremely successful flash portal created by Tom Fulp. It is notable for being the first website ever to use a "portal based" system, in which any user can submit a movie to be judged and voted on by the community.

Newgrounds has a unique voting system based on ranks and levels. In other words, the more a user votes, the more voting power he/she has.

[edit] Voting system

When a portal submission is under judgment, you can either "save" or "blam" it by casting a vote. "Blamming" means voting a 0 or a 1 on a Flash movie. Saving can be any vote from 2 up to 5. For a movie to pass, it must achieve a score of at least 1.60 by the time it receives 200 votes.

If Flash gets blammed, it is sent to the Graveyard, only leaving the reviews, the author's comment and the final score behind.

When a Flash has been protected, it stays on the Newgrounds portal.

[edit] Levels

There are 60 levels total, though before the layout change known as the "redesign", there were only 30 levels. A user's level is determined by how many experience points he/she has. One vote on any movie is worth 2 experience points. Each day gives you 10 experience points, after voting 5 Flash movies, you can deposit. A user can not earn more than 10 experience points on any given day.

The higher the level, the higher your voting power is. Voting power determines your weight on the votes of a Flash movie in the Flash Portal.

[edit] Ranks

There are 26 ranks in total. Unlike levels, a user's rank is determined by how many blam/protection points he/she has. Blam/Protection points can only be earned on movies that are under judgment. You receive a blam point when a flash is blammed that you also gave a "blam" vote to. The same way works with protection points. If you give a movie a "save" vote on a movie and it ends up staying on the portal, you get a "protection" point.

The higher the rank, the more the voter's original voting power will be boosted.
