[edit] New Features

[edit] Motion Tween vs Classic Tween

The new motion tween in Flash CS4 operates much differently and has more advanced hands-on features than the 'classic tween'.

[edit] 3D Rotation and Translation

Symbols can now be rotated in '3D'.

[edit] Spray Brush Tool

The Spray Brush Tool is similar to the Image Hose in Painter, in that you can load in a specific symbol and it will 'spray' it across the canvas based on your settings.

[edit] Deco Tool

The Deco Tool can take a complicated pattern and will 'draw' it in a path that you dictate.

[edit] Kinematics (bones)

Flash CS4 now supports inverse kinematics - that is, the joining of symbols to create motion based on a skeletal-like system.

[edit] Notable Changes to Returning Features

[edit] Layout

Flash CS4's layout has been updated and a few minor changes have been made.

[edit] Keyboard Shortcuts

Please note that the Zoom Tool has been renamed to the Magnifier, and its keyboard shortcut is now M instead of Z. Z is now the keyboard shortcut for the Bind Tool. However, this can be easily changed by going to the Edit > Keyboard Shortcuts menu, and selecting the drop-down option for Tools Panel.

[edit] Motion Tween

By default, CS4 will create the new tween, and old tweens are now called Classic Tweens. You can create a Classic Tween by right-clicking on the timeline and selecting the option.

[edit] Notable Features Left Unchanged

  • You can still choose between an AS 3.0 and AS 2.0 document. However, please note that AS 2.0 does not support inverse kinematics.
  • The Free Transform and Gradient Transform tool are still bundled together in the toolbar, with the Free Transform tool on top.
